THE GENERA ACANTHOMINTHA

Acanthomintha is a genera of plants native to California and of which most of the species are listed as protected species with a status of Threatened or Endangered. They are generally thought of as annuals and are hairy but not aromatic. They have erect stems which may or may not be branched, lanceolate to obovate leaves with entire to spiny margins. Their inflorescences are generally clustered, terminal and axillary. .The following species are representative of this genera.


Acanthomintha duttonii or San Mateo thornmint is a short unbranched annual with hairy stems about 20cm in length. The leaves are lance-oblong to obovate and 8-12 mm. long. It has terminal inflorescences which are white with lavender tinged edges on the upper lip. ▲ 8" ►3-4" Zones 7-9
