THE GENERA ACINOS

Acinos is a genera of 10 species of annuals and evergreen, woody stemmed perennials commonly found in the mountainous areas and open sites from Europe to Asia. They have small aromatic mid-green, opposite leaves with tubular 2 lipped flowers which are borne in erect spike-like whorls in midsummer.The following species are representative of this genera.


Acinos alpinus, commonly known as Alpine calamint is a woody based ,low growing perennial with entire to slightly toothed
elliptic leaves 2 cm in length with blunt tips.
It produces spike like whorls of 3-8 purple
flowers with white marks on lower lips
in midsummer.▲ 4-8" ►3-6" Zones 4-9
Acinos arvensis,often referred to as Basil thyme,is a spreading short lived perennial with ovate leaves 1.5" in length on erect branching stems. It produces axillary whorls of 3-8 violet flowers with white markings on lower lips from mid to late summer.▲ 8" ►12" Zones 7-8
