THE GENERA AGASTACHE

Agastache is a genera which contains 30 species. They are generally erect, bushy plants with lance-shaped to ovate gray-green leaves borne in opposite pairs with highly fragrant spikes of tubulat two-lipped flowers which bloom from mid-summer to autumn.These aromatic perennials are traditionally found in the dry, hilly terrain of China, Japan, Mexico, and the United States. They typically do well in an herb garden or as part of a mixed border. In areas where they are not hardy, they may be grown as annuals in containers and they also are very attractive to inscts. These species are predominately affected by mildews and rust. The following species are representative of this genera.


Agastache scrophulariifolia is a bushy perennial with ovate to ovate-lance shaped leaves 5 cm. in length, and spikes 10-25 cm.
in length with rose to purple, blue, white or apricot flowers according to the cultivar.

Agastache rugosa,commonly called Wrinkled Giant Hyssop is an erect perennial with ovate, lance-shaped leaves with pillose abaxial surfaces. The branching stemsbear pink to purple flowers in short spikes from midsummer to autumn.
