THE GENERA CALAMINTHA

Calamintha is comprised of 8 species of aromatic, often rhizomatous perennials with ovate to oblong, toothed leaves with cymes of 2-lipped blue, pink or sometimes white flowers which bloom predominately in the summer. They may serve as an attractive border, be used in rock or woodland gardens, or used as an attractant for bees. Unlike most species in the family which prefer a drier soil, Calamintha does well In a moist but well drained soil. The following species are indicative of the genera.


Calamintha grandiflora,is a rhizomatous many branched perennial with ovate, toothed, dark green leaves 2" in length and cymes of up to 5 pink flowers 1-1.5" in length during the summer season.This specie thrives in a dappled shade environment.▲ 18" ► 18" Zones 5-9
Calamintha nepeta or lesser calamint is an erect, slow growing, aromatic perennial with ovate, toothed,dark green leaves 1.5" in length and bears branched cymes of 5 to 15 mauve, sometimes pink flowers .25" long.
